HELP GET STRONGSTART PARENT-TOT IN WHISTLER!

Hello all Families!

I am in the process of writing a letter to the school board to see if we can get the StrongStart Program to Whistler for our children ages 0-6! StrongStart is a free, early-learning drop-in program for children. Children from newborns to six years old, accompanied by a parent or care provider, can play to their hearts’ content, including building with blocks, playing dress-up, reading, playing with fine manipulatives, exploring their senses with water, sand and play dough, expressing their artistic sides with a variety of art materials, singing and dancing at circle time, socializing and enjoying the wide variety of snacks offered each day.

If you don't know already, Squamish, Pemberton and almost every community in British Columbia have this running. The government seems to think that because we are a resort town....Whistler doesn't need it!

I am asking for your support in this process. What I am looking for are signatures to go with my letter and letters from parents that hope to see StrongStart in Whistler. If anyone would like to take the time to write a small letter with your reasons why our children deserve this just as every other community does....that would be wonderful! Check out the website....       http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/early_learning/strongstart_bc/

I am also looking for any families that don't have have a way to get to Pemberton to use the Pemberton program in the meantime. (we are supposed to be a green community...we shouldn't be driving to Pemberton...we should be walking or riding close to home...right?).

There is a group of parents and community members that meet once a month (Putting Children First Whistler), if you would like to come and give your input, the next meeting is Thursday, November 12 at 7pm (Child Minding available, Myrtle Phillip). Or if you can't make it and you have any ideas, just let me know and I can bring them up!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hope it brings you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside! Pass this on to any other families you know in Whistler. Please email me to show your support for this program at janacookbc@gmail.com
